What to do if you are working from home and the kids are at home
Working from home while the kids are at home? If there is one simple way to become insane, it’s this! I have five kids under the age of 8 and here is what I learned:
Manage your own energy first. As they say on the airplane: Put your own oxygen mask on first. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
In my house, it’s “Mom first”. This might sound strange, but I’m thinking: My kids deserve a mom who is well rested, in a good mood, and who is healthy and strong. I won’t achieve this if I’m tired and worn out. In the long run, it’s best for everyone in the family if I’m well.
So here is what I do: I prioritize my sleep. I quickly get rid of any negative people in my life. And I say no to anything that is taking my energy away.
Is the house always perfectly clean? Not necessarily…do I cook gourmet dinners for the entire family? Well…
Give yourself permission and do one thing today that helps you to feel better. Take a walk, take a nap, watch a funny movie, eat some chocolate. Let’s give ourselves a break from the mommy-guilt trap.
There is one thing I know for sure: If I’m well, I can take much better care of everyone else and that’s why my motto is: Mom first.
