The Outgoing Introvert and Other Personality Types

Do you replenish your energy when being alone or around other people? 🤔

People often confuse being outgoing with being extroverted and being reserved with introversion. But there is a spectrum that most aren’t aware of. It all comes down to where you get your energy from – not whether you’re talkative at a cocktail party.

Outgoing people find it easy to share their emotions and opinions. Given that my career involves striding confidently onstage and giving keynote speeches to thousands of people, you’d probably bet that I’m an extrovert. But you’d be wrong…

While I love chatting with clients and people from all over the world, I also find it exhausting and often check my schedule for when I can take a break alone to recharge. I am an outgoing introvert. On the other end of the spectrum, reserved people are slower to reveal their emotions and opinions.

My extroverted friend, Sarah, can be slow to warm up to people and chat about her feelings, but feels most energized when she is out dancing with friends. She is a reserved extrovert. So, don’t judge a book by its cover. Instead, pay attention to how it recovers 😉.
