Free Speech Should Not Be Taken For Granted

I grew up in East Germany – until we managed to escape.

I’ve seen firsthand the detrimental effects of living in a society where people are unable to voice their opinions without fear of repercussions.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that freedom of speech and expression is one of my core values.

The ability to speak openly and share diverse perspectives is not just a privilege but it is vital to a progressive and thriving society.
It fosters innovation, encourages critical thinking, and promotes social progress.

Ensuring that we exist in a society that allows for people to be open and honest in the way that they express themselves is something that should be valued by all. We don’t all need to agree or have the same views, but the freedom to be able to disagree in a civil and safe way is something we should all protect.

(Verbal abuse, harassment, hate speech, etc. are not the same as “freedom of expression” and are not something I will ever condone.)
