Increase Your Brain Health and Decrease Your Screen Time

Be intentional about your screen time

Did you know that American teenagers spend an average of 9 hours per day on the Internet?๐Ÿ˜ฎ

If you are a parent, you probably arenโ€™t surprised in the least.๐Ÿคท

What you might not realize though, is how bad that is for the developing brain. 

Studies now show how this large amount of daily screen time is affecting brain functions โ€“ it is like your childโ€™s favorite drug.

You might be thinking, โ€œBut, Friederike, screens are an important part of todayโ€™s culture!โ€

I mean, ๐™ฎ๐™š๐™จ, you are probably looking at a screen right now to view this post! ๐Ÿค

But you can set some boundaries around using screens to protect your childrenโ€™s developing brains while still getting the most out of technological advances. 

Let’s tackle some ways to decrease screen time

๐Ÿ“ต๐—•๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ. Set expectations and goals together to be intentional about reducing screen time.

๐Ÿ“ต๐—•๐—ฒ ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฑ. Spend time each day talking face-to-face with your children and give them your full attention.

๐Ÿ“ต๐—–๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—ฝ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ-๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ ๐˜‡๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€. One easy suggestion is during mealtimes.

Take a walk. Play with friends. Engage in actual face-to-face activities.
